What does IHC - SMA - (Outlab) measure?
This immunohistochemistry (IHC) test detects smooth muscle actin (SMA), a protein commonly expressed in smooth muscle cells and myofibroblasts. It may be used to help characterize tissue abnormalities, including certain soft-tissue, vascular, or spindle-cell lesions, and to support distinction between different types of cells in a biopsy. Results are interpreted along with tissue appearance, other marker tests, and clinical information.
