ANDROSTENEDIONE (A4)

About test

What does ANDROSTENEDIONE (A4) measure?

This test measures androstenedione (A4), a hormone made mainly by the adrenal glands and ovaries or testes. Androstenedione is a precursor to testosterone and oestrogen. It may be used to help evaluate androgen hormone production and investigate suspected hormonal imbalance, including possible adrenal or ovarian causes of increased androgen levels. Results are interpreted alongside clinical findings and, when needed, other hormone tests.
