About test

What does EPSTEIN BARR VIRAL CAPSID ANTIGEN - IGG measure?

This test measures IgG antibodies to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) viral capsid antigen. These antibodies usually develop during or after EBV infection and may remain detectable for many years. The test may be used as part of an EBV antibody panel to help assess previous exposure to EBV or to support evaluation of symptoms that may be associated with infectious mononucleosis. Results are interpreted along with other EBV antibody tests and clinical findings.
