GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE
What does GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE measure?
This test measures the activity of the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzyme, which helps protect red blood cells from oxidative damage. It may be used to evaluate possible G6PD deficiency, particularly when unexplained red blood cell breakdown is suspected or before medicines that can affect people with reduced G6PD activity are considered. Results are interpreted along with medical history and other laboratory findings.
